Rachel moved to Alaska in 1990 and graduated from Palmer High School. She became interested in the field of dentistry after getting braces.
She moved to Michigan and enrolled in the dental hygiene program at Ferris State University in Big Rapids. During hygiene school, Rachel traveled to Guyana, South America with other dental hygiene students and provided dental services to the locals of a village who had no access to dental care.
Rachel returned to Alaska with her husband in 2008. She has four children and enjoys being a wife and mother. Some of her other interests included reading, sewing, crocheting, and knitting.
